The history of Khuman Thong (or Kuman Tong, Guman Tong) goes up in XIIIe century, under Ramathibodi 1st, first king of the Ayatthaya kingdom. It was also known under the name of Prince U Thong. In these moved back times, the magic have a integral part of the art of the war.
It is told that Pra Surinreuchai or Kun Pan, one of the high persons in charge for the army of the king, and disciple of Ajarn Kong of the temple Wat Kea is at the origin of first Khuman Thong.
This event had been recorded in Thai classic literature, Kun Chang-Kun Pan, which was based on true story:

Traditionally, the manufacture of Khuman Thong was something of sordid. The monk was to extract the foetus dead from the belly of his mother. Once that made, it was to go as fast as possible to the limit of a temple. As fast as possible, because it is known as that a woman died during her pregnancy will become a powerful and brutal phantom. It is towards 1920 that the large Masters noted that the traditional manner to create Khuman Thong was very complicated, dangerous, immoral, and doubtless illegal!
Nowadays, the composition and the appearance of Kuman Thong changed. They are composed for the majority of ashes and bone of corpses, ground coming from the tombs and clay. Although for some, they is possible to still find remainder of placenta or umbilical cord. Even if they changed aspect, the ceremony "to domesticate" and lock up the spirit in its new receptacle remains the same one as in the beginnings.
Concretely, Khuman Thong is the phantom spirit of a child still-born child.
Once adopted, it must be regarded as a little child and be integrated into the family. It is disadvised introducing Khuman Thong into a family already having children, because this last could be jealous.
Offerings must be made to him each day. One must to also offer toys (it is a child) and weapons him (to protect his/her these parents, and the house or it lives).
Its role of is protected the house, and to bring chance and good health to these parents adoptive.
It is told that powerful Khuman Thong appear with the eyes of the robbers, like an enormous black dog with the blazing eyes.
